The Absolute Universe is adding another solo title. DC’s January 2027 solicitations, published by Bleeding Cool on Oct. 23, include Absolute Black Canary #1 from writer Pornsak Pichetshote and artist Belén Ortega, on sale Jan. 20, 2027.

The new series picks up after Dinah Lance’s run-in with Green Arrow in the Absolute line. According to DC, that confrontation “led her to startling and disturbing discoveries about herself—and her deceased mother.” Now Dinah has traveled to the streets of Bangkok, looking for clues about her mother’s secret motives.

That search puts her in the crosshairs of a new Absolute Wildcat, and it leads her to a bigger mystery as well. DC says Dinah “stumbles onto another mystery—this one at the core of the history of the Absolute Universe, one tracing all the way back to Absolute Evil #1.” That makes this launch more than a side story, since it ties directly to the event that set up the whole line.

Pichetshote is known for the horror comic Infidel, and Ortega, an Eisner nominee, brings her art to the series. Ortega also draws the main cover, with a variant from Rafael Albuquerque. The first issue is 32 pages and costs $4.99, with a $5.99 card stock variant.

The Absolute line has been one of DC’s biggest sales stories of the past two years, with Absolute Batman #25 reportedly topping 775,000 orders. January brings new chapters of Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman, Absolute Wonder Woman, Absolute Flash and Absolute Green Lantern alongside this launch, so Black Canary arrives in a crowded but popular corner of the publisher’s lineup. It is one of two headline launches for the month, alongside Ram V and Alex Paknadel’s DC All In Saga: The New Gods #1 with artist Joan Urgell, which lands Jan. 13.

With the January solicits out, comic shops can now take orders for Absolute Black Canary #1 ahead of its Jan. 20 release.
