Capcom Temporarily Delists Street Fighter 5 and Shuts Off Servers Over PHP Security Issue

Capcom has temporarily pulled Street Fighter 5 from sale on PlayStation 4 and Steam and switched off the game’s online servers while it works on a security issue tied to the PHP programming language, VGC reports.

The problem traces back to last week, when cyber-security researchers and organisations used AI to uncover two major vulnerabilities in PHP, a language that has powered web development for decades. A number of sites and services went down briefly while the flaws were patched, but Capcom has now confirmed that Street Fighter 5 is potentially affected.

The publisher first flagged the issue on the official Street Fighter account on X last Wednesday, followed by a notice on the game’s Steam page on Friday, saying it was performing emergency maintenance due to “the security enhancements related to the PHP programming language” and that online features had been shut down.

In a new message on X on October 27, Capcom said that “content requiring online functionality is currently unavailable” in the PlayStation 4 and Steam versions, while offline content “remains available and can still be enjoyed.” The company added that emergency maintenance is underway and that, until the fix is complete, “sales on the PlayStation Store and Steam will be suspended in stages.”

That means anyone who already owns Street Fighter 5 can keep playing offline modes for now. Only the online side of the game has been turned off.

Capcom has not given an estimated time for when online features will return or when the game will be back on the PlayStation Store and Steam. The company describes the delisting as temporary.
