Thief: The Dark Project Remastered launches December 3, and pre-orders are open now. Publisher Atari and developers Nightdive Studios and Eidos Montreal set the date for the return of the 1998 Looking Glass Studios stealth classic, as Gematsu reports.
The remaster is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
Two digital editions are up for pre-order. The Standard Edition costs $29.99 (£24.99 / €29.99). The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $34.99 (£28.99 / €34.99) and adds a remaster diary of the game’s artwork, the soundtrack, and a novel preview of Thief: The Dark Project. Clear River Games is distributing physical editions for PS5 and Switch 2 at retailers such as VGP.
Yes, Thief: Gold is included. Built on Nightdive’s KEX Engine, the remaster includes all 12 missions from the original game plus the three extra missions and five new enemy types from the 1999 Thief: Gold re-release. Nightdive lists up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second, upgraded textures, models, and animations, a weapon and item wheel, a mission selector, rumble and gyro controls, and built-in support for custom campaigns. A Vault of behind-the-scenes material rounds it out.
Push Square adds that the release also carries The Tarnished Mirror, a new campaign bridging The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age, made by the team behind the fan expansion Thief: The Black Parade. As we covered when Nightdive confirmed The Tarnished Mirror, that campaign is now official canon.
Players once again take the role of Garrett, an orphan trained by the secretive Keepers to become a master thief, sneaking through maze-like levels where guards can hear, talk, and raise alarms. Each mission offers three difficulty settings with different objectives.
The firm date replaces the winter window Nightdive gave alongside the remaster’s gameplay trailer back in September.
