Good news for Sonic readers worried that the big anniversary might also be a finale. IDW Publishing says its Sonic the Hedgehog series will keep going after issue #100, according to the latest edition of the publisher’s Super Sonic Monthly column, published by AIPT.
“With Sonic the Hedgehog #100 on the horizon, many of you may have been wondering what’s next,” IDW wrote. “Well, wonder no more! The ongoing series will continue on with an all-new adventure starting in Sonic the Hedgehog #101! Plus, we have more mini-series and specials planned for you!”
Two of those specials already have shape. A “slightly spooky” Amy Rose one-shot is coming in March, and Tails will get a special of his own too. IDW did not share titles or creative teams yet.
The main series is currently in its Road to 100 storyline, and IDW said Silver and Blaze are “crucial” to it. The pair played a big part in issues #89 through #91 and are back in the spotlight from #97 onward. IDW also dropped a few cryptic hints about the run-up to the milestone: mist, an organ and yet another flying ship crash.
Writer Ian Flynn, who has guided Sonic’s comics through both the Archie era and IDW’s run since 2018, also answered reader questions in the column. Asked what a perfectly evil day looks like for Doctor Starline, Flynn said he “gets up early, has his first cup of coffee, then checks on the progress of his long-term research,” looks over Eggman tech databases for fun and winds down with “a nice relaxing eleventh cup of coffee.”
In the nearer term, Sonic the Hedgehog #92 is due on Dec. 9. Before that, the crossover Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #4 lands on Nov. 11, continuing IDW’s monster-sized team-up between Sega’s and Toho’s mascots.
IDW has been busy reshaping its line for 2027, including a new horror initiative called IDW Goes Dark. Sonic, one of its steadiest sellers since the license moved from Archie, is clearly staying on the schedule well beyond the big triple digits.
