Xbox Caps Game Pass Cloud Hours in November

Xbox

Xbox is putting monthly hour caps on Game Pass cloud gaming beginning in November 2026. The first-party post on Xbox Wire dated September 3, 2026 is the primary source. Today, eligible Game Pass subscribers can stream without those monthly limits. Under the new model, each plan includes a fixed cloud allotment each month: Game Pass Ultimate gets 15 hours, Game Pass Premium gets 10 hours, and Game Pass Essential gets 5 hours.

Microsoft says it expects the change to affect about 4% of Game Pass subscribers — the players who spend the most time streaming. Once a subscriber uses the included hours, they will be able to buy additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store. Pricing, purchasing options, and some cloud features may vary by market. Xbox says it will share those details before November.

Also starting in November, players can use Xbox cloud gaming without a Game Pass subscription. They will be able to buy cloud playtime hours in the Xbox Store and stream eligible games they own on supported devices. Xbox frames that path for occasional cloud use or for people who do not want a recurring Game Pass plan. Cloud can also give Xbox One owners access to eligible Xbox Series X|S titles without an immediate hardware upgrade, which Xbox says is useful in markets where consoles are harder to buy.

Why the change: Xbox says the cost of cloud gaming rises as more people use it and play longer. Monthly limits are meant to keep the service viable while Microsoft keeps investing in reliability and performance. The company acknowledges that for some players the practical result is a higher cost. More information on pricing, eligible games, market availability, and how to check remaining time is scheduled for November. This story is not claiming exact hour-bundle prices, because Xbox has not published them yet.

Earlier Game Pass catalog coverage on RCG News includes Xbox’s next 10 Game Pass titles led by Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. That catalog beat is separate from today’s cloud-hour policy.

What this story is not claiming: Xbox is not removing cloud from Game Pass. Unlimited streaming ends for included hours in November; extras will be sold. Pricing for those extras is not public yet. The 4% impact figure is Microsoft’s estimate, not an independent audit.
