Thunder Lotus has moved At Fate’s End out of 2026. In a press release dated Oct. 7, the Montreal studio behind Spiritfarer said its action-adventure game is now coming in 2027, a change made “to give the development team extra time to polish the game.” Thunder Lotus said it will decide on a precise release date in the new year.
The delay came with the game’s first public demo, which launched on Steam on Oct. 6. The FAQ on the game’s official page says the demo is currently available on Steam, and that no other versions are confirmed at this time. In the demo, players try to uncover the mystery surrounding Camilla, the sister of lead character Shan, and then defeat her with the sword, with words, or both. Thunder Lotus calls the demo a playable preview and notes that the game is still in active development, so things may change before launch. Players can send feedback through a survey link in the demo’s menu.
“We’ve made incredible progress on At Fate’s End since we first revealed the game in 2025, and we’re excited for players to finally get their hands on it,” creative director Nicolas Guérin said in the release. “There’s still some important polish and care we want to put into the game, and we believe giving the team more time will make At Fate’s End the best game it can be.”
What At Fate’s End is
Thunder Lotus pitches At Fate’s End as “an action-adventure game where you fight the ones you love.” Players take the role of Shan, the young heiress of the Hemlock clan, who wields the legendary God Sword Aesus and has to face her estranged siblings in emotional duels that decide the family’s fate. Combat mixes fast, tactical swordfighting with choice-driven dialogue battles, and the skill tree grows through Shan’s family connections. The game’s page says players collect seven swords of power along the way, and the story has multiple endings.
It’s the studio’s fifth production, after Jotun, Sundered, Spiritfarer and the 33-player action-roguelike 33 Immortals, which entered Early Access in 2025. Thunder Lotus says Spiritfarer has drawn more than 7 million players, and that the Spiritfarer team started dreaming up At Fate’s End in 2021. The Verge’s Jay Peters, who called it his favorite game from GDC, wrote that it “blew me away” when he tried it earlier this year.
When it arrives in 2027, At Fate’s End is coming to Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC and Xbox Game Pass. It’s the latest game to slip into next year; Ember Lab moved Kena: Scars of Kosmora to 2027 last week.
