Cyberpunk 2077 is having a moment again. CD Projekt Red’s RPG reached a peak of 187,215 concurrent players on Steam over the weekend, its highest since October 2023, according to SteamDB figures reported by GamesRadar+.
Several things lined up at once. Update 2.5 landed last week with new content tied to the second season of Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, including a prequel quest, and the new season of the anime arrived at the same time. The game is also 70% off on Steam right now, which never hurts.
The developers noticed. Paweł Sasko, associate director on Cyberpunk 2, celebrated the numbers on X. “It’s been hell of a weekend,” he wrote. “Peak of 187K concurrent players on Steam alone, a lot of hilarious threads and meme clips, it all fills my heart with joy.” He followed up by asking players what the team could improve and “where we have missed the mark with 2.5,” adding, “Your perception is everything.”
The last time Cyberpunk drew bigger crowds on Steam was in the fall of 2023, when the 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion pushed it to 274,526 players. The first season of Edgerunners caused a similar spike back in 2022, giving the game a second wind after its rough launch.
Update 2.5 is a notable one for a game that had been considered finished. As we reported, the update brought Edgerunners 2 content to the game on Oct. 22, and it also added changes that have kept players talking across social media over the weekend.
CD Projekt Red is now deep into work on Cyberpunk 2, and studio leads have said many of the people on that team got their start in modding. For now, the original is enjoying one of its biggest crowds in years, and Sasko’s request for feedback suggests the studio is still listening.
