A beloved shojo classic is finally getting an English release. Indie publisher Manga Mavericks Books and digital platform and publisher Omoi have licensed Georgie, the manga by writer Mann Izawa and artist Yumiko Igarashi, as Comics Beat reports.

Georgie will arrive first as a digital exclusive on Omoi in spring 2027, followed by a print edition from Manga Mavericks Books in August 2027. The print release will collect the series in two deluxe hardcover volumes at the larger JIS B5 size, about 5.83 by 8.27 inches.

The first volume runs 480 pages and is rated for readers 13 and up. The print edition will retail for $49.99, while the digital version will cost $9.99.

The story follows Georgie, a lively young girl who lives with her mother and two older brothers in the Australian countryside. When she meets Lowell, a young English noble, her life changes, and she sets out on a journey to England to discover where she really comes from.

Georgie was first serialized in Japan in 1982 and was adapted into a TV anime the following year. Igarashi is also known as the artist of Candy Candy, one of the defining shojo series of the 1970s.

Igarashi shared a message with English readers in the announcement. “Georgie is a story I created by gathering the many different kinds of love surrounding her, like flower petals,” she said. “As you enjoy the story, I hope you’ll also take a little moment to think about what kind of love you would like to give Georgie, or what kind of love you would like her to give you. And to all of you readers who love Georgie so much, I love you!”

Anime News Network also confirmed the license. Classic manga has been getting more attention from English publishers lately, alongside new announcements like Yen Press’s MCM London licenses, and Georgie is one of the more anticipated shojo rescues for older fans.
