A Chinese court has ordered two people who leaked unreleased Honkai: Star Rail data to jointly pay miHoYo 1 million yuan, about $150,000, after ruling that they infringed the company’s trade secrets.

Automaton reports that miHoYo’s legal department announced the first-instance ruling on Oct. 28, citing IT Home and other Chinese outlets.

What did the leakers do?

According to miHoYo, one defendant, identified only by the surname Yang, obtained test data from an unreleased version of Honkai: Star Rail and shared it along with instructions that let other players set up their games to reach unreleased content. The second defendant, surnamed Guo, also obtained test data through illicit means and distributed extracted assets and gameplay footage online. miHoYo sued both, seeking an injunction.

What did the court order?

  • Stop the infringement immediately.
  • Post statements on their Bilibili accounts and QQ Video channel pages for 30 consecutive days.
  • Jointly pay 1 million yuan (about $150,000) to cover miHoYo’s economic losses and the cost of protecting its rights.

Automaton says the ruling has reportedly already taken effect.

It is not miHoYo’s first win against leakers. Earlier this year, a leaker who livestreamed unreleased footage was ordered to pay roughly $16,500, and miHoYo and its subsidiary Cognosphere have pressed sites that aggregate leaked material to take it down.
