José Andrés is going back to the Marvel kitchen, and he already has his next reservation booked. The chef and humanitarian’s Meals to Astonish: Avengers #1 hits comic shops on Wednesday, October 14, and Andrés has confirmed that an X-Men installment of the series is due in March 2027, Bleeding Cool reports.
The new one-shot follows Meals to Astonish: Spider-Man #1, which Marvel released in March. Both books are written with Andrés’ longtime collaborator Steve Orlando, who also worked with him on the 2023 graphic novel Feeding Dangerously. The series is inspired by the work of World Central Kitchen, Andrés’ nonprofit that feeds communities in crisis.
Ultron crashes the dinner in Las Vegas
In the Avengers issue, Tony Stark and Andrés head to Las Vegas to debut new disaster-relief technology, only for Ultron to attack. It’s up to José and the Avengers to save the tech, according to Marvel’s solicitation as reported by AIPT. Iron Man, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch and Vision all get time in the spotlight.
Andrés also brings three of his own heroes into the Marvel Universe. Chefs Ferran Adrià, Robert Egger and Jacques Pépin all appear, with Adrià sharing scenes with Scarlet Witch and Vision and Egger alongside T’Challa. Roi Mercado and Jacob Chabot handle the art, and Leinil Francis Yu drew the cover.
The $5.99 issue is stacked beyond the main story. It includes a new Jeff’s Table installment, a T.E.S.T. Kitchen story from Michelin-starred chef Paul Eschbach and artist E.J. Su, and the debut of VenomNom by Chabot.
Andrés promoted the book with a signing at Mercado Little Spain during New York Comic Con and a stop on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Marvel hasn’t announced a title or creative team for the X-Men book yet. It joins a busy 2027 slate that already includes the plans RCG covered when Marvel set Crisis of Faith, Spider-Punk and Noir.
