Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong is coming back for a third round, and this time the monsters have evil twins. At its Jim Lee & Friends panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, DC announced a third volume of its crossover with Legendary’s MonsterVerse, set for spring 2027, AIPT reports. The new story goes multiversal: Earth-3’s Crime Syndicate, the villainous mirror image of the Justice League, brings its own versions of Godzilla and Kong.
DC has not named a creative team, an issue count, or a release date for the new volume. Spring 2027 is the only timing given so far.
Monsters from the wrong Earth
DC president, publisher and chief creative officer Jim Lee opened the panel with the crossover, welcoming representatives from Legendary and Toho International on stage, according to AIPT. The panelists pointed to how strongly readers responded to the first two volumes and to the real stakes involved, since characters have died over the course of the series.
Earth-3 is DC’s oldest “everything is backwards” world, where the villains won. Its Crime Syndicate includes Ultraman, Owlman, Superwoman, Power Ring and Johnny Quick, and the team dates back to Justice League of America #29 in 1964, per DC’s own Earth-3 character page. Bleeding Cool reports that the story kicks off when a small group of failing heroes left on Earth-3 crosses over to the main DC Earth to recruit Godzilla.
Apache Chief in the mix
The panel also brought up Apache Chief, the hero created for the Super Friends cartoon. AIPT says the talk centered on updating the character for modern audiences in a more thoughtful, appropriate way, with no specific plans confirmed. Bleeding Cool’s account goes further. It reports that a reworked Apache Chief is among the Earth-3 heroes in the new story, that Lee acknowledged the problems with the original concept, and that DC is creating a new kaiju connected to the Apache people, drawing a parallel between Godzilla’s roots in the atomic bombings of Japan and nuclear testing that affected Apache communities. DC has not published its own announcement with those details.
Where the series stands
Writer Brian Buccellato and artist Christian Duce made both earlier volumes. The first, a seven-issue series, brought Godzilla, Kong and the MonsterVerse Titans into the DC Universe. The second, which launched June 4, 2025, sent the Justice League to Legendary’s Earth and the Hollow Earth to stop Amanda Waller’s Task Force X from building controllable hybrid Titans. Whether Buccellato and Duce return for the third volume has not been announced.
The monster news capped a busy NYCC for DC, which used Friday’s Absolute Universe panel to reveal Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra’s Absolute Justice for April 2027.
