Spawn is back on the streets, and something is not quite right. King Spawn #60, from writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Thomas Nachlik, is in comic shops on Wednesday, October 21, from Image Comics and Todd McFarlane. It kicks off a new run of stories led by Rosenberg across both Spawn and King Spawn.
The solicitation keeps it short: “Spawn has returned. But something in him has changed. Is he still the same man he was, or has something dark taken control?” The issue costs $3.99, with a main cover by Fede Mele. Bleeding Cool’s preview teases that the issue introduces a brand-new version of the character in New York, so readers who want to avoid spoilers should get to the shop early.
The road through the end of 2026
Image has already laid out the next few months of Spawn stories, all written by Rosenberg:
- Spawn #380 (art by Stephen Segovia, cover by Francesco Mattina): October 28. Spawn is back in the city, and the evils in the shadows have grown bold.
- King Spawn #61 (art by Nachlik, cover by Eric Canete): November 18. Spawn learns he is no longer the alpha as a group called the 400 claims New York.
- Spawn #381 (cover by Harvey Tolibao): November 25. Al Simmons must step into the light and help the world recover.
- Spawn #382 (cover by Tehani Farr): December 23. New enemies surface, intent on destroying humanity.
- King Spawn #62 (cover by Danny Ingrassia): December 30. Al is finally with Wanda Blake, but she is not quite herself.
Every issue is priced at $3.99.
A fresh start for a long-running hero
Spawn has been one of Image’s flagship characters since the 1990s, and the main series is now closing in on issue #400. Bringing in one writer to steer both core books gives new and lapsed readers a clean jumping-on point, and it sets up a clear storyline through the holidays.
McFarlane has also been busy outside comics, with news that the DC toy license is moving from McFarlane Toys to Mattel in 2027. On the page, though, King Spawn #60 is the place to start if you want to see where Al Simmons is headed next.
