Fans of tactical RPGs will have to wait a little longer for Shadow of the Road. Developer Another Angle Games and publisher Owlcat Games announced on Friday, October 9, that the game is moving from its planned November 12, 2026 release to March 10, 2027.
Shadow of the Road is a story-driven, turn-based tactical RPG set in 19th-century Japan. It is coming to PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG.
In the announcement, Owlcat said the extra four months will let the team “address remaining issues and give the whole experience the polish it deserves.” Most of that work is on combat. The developers want to refine the tactical side of encounters and fine-tune balance, so that positioning, initiative and ability choices all matter in every battle. Owlcat said the goal is for every encounter to reward thoughtful planning and give players meaningful decisions.
The team is also reworking the game’s progression systems to make building up your party more engaging. Owlcat said it wants to give players more reasons to experiment with different skills and change their tactics to fit each challenge.
A delay like this is common for tactical games, where a few unbalanced fights can sour a whole campaign. Owlcat knows the genre well. The Cyprus-based studio is best known for its own Pathfinder and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader RPGs, and here it is acting as publisher for Another Angle’s game.
Moving to March also takes Shadow of the Road out of a very crowded November. Plenty of big releases are packed into the end of the year, and an early-spring launch could give a smaller tactics game more room to be noticed.
Owlcat said fans can expect more trailers and looks at the game’s world before the new date. Gematsu has the studio’s full statement.
Shadow of the Road is the latest of several games slipping into 2027. RCG also reported that Thunder Lotus delayed At Fate’s End to 2027 and released a Steam demo.
