Pokémon Pokopia (ぽこ あ ポケモン) took the Japan Game Awards 2026 Grand Award (年間作品部門 大賞) — a fitting headline in Pokémon’s 30th anniversary year.
CESA’s official PR Times release (Sep 15, 2026) names Pokopia (The Pokémon Company) as the Annual Works Division Grand Award winner. Presenter Miyata Toshiya (Kis-My-Ft2) framed the win around Pokémon’s three-decade cultural staying power. The same ceremony handed the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (経済産業大臣賞) to the Pocket Monsters / Pokémon franchise as a whole — not just the sandbox title — citing 30 years of games-to-culture impact from Red/Green through GO, Sleep, TCG Pocket, Pokopia, and Champions.
Other awards (context)
From the same CESA release:
- Breakthrough Award: Capcom’s PRAGMATA
- Movement Award: めっちゃカメレオン (CESA notes ~20M worldwide sales in ~two months)
- Game Designers Award (final year of the prize): 文字遊戯 (Team9)
- Eligibility window: titles released in Japan June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026; public vote June 12 – July 17, 2026 plus selection committee.
Polygon’s Austin Manchester (Sep 15) frames the win as an early GOTY for a year still packing major releases, notes Pokopia also took an Award for Excellence, and places the METI franchise award alongside the Grand Award.
Sales — attribute and as-of
Do not treat “5M+” as an awards-night sales reveal. The latest hard primary we can cite is The Pokémon Company’s Asia press release dated August 14, 2026: Pokopia sold over 5 million copies worldwide in the first four months after global launch on March 5, 2026 (Nintendo Co., Ltd. data; includes digital; Nintendo distributes outside Japan). Polygon’s Sep 15 awards piece restates “over 5 million… since its March release” and calls it Switch 2’s second-best seller behind Mario Kart World — attribute that ranking claim to Polygon, not to the Aug 14 TPC release.
Expansion Pass Part 1 Bubbly Basin launched August 5, 2026; Part 2 is Winter 2026; Part 3 is 2027 (TPC Asia).
As-of: morning September 16, 2026 (America/Chicago). Grand Award + METI franchise award verified against CESA PR Times Sep 15, 2026. Sales “over 5 million / first four months after March 5, 2026” attributed to The Pokémon Company Asia press Aug 14, 2026 (Nintendo data); Polygon Sep 15 restates 5M+ and adds Switch 2 sales-rank context.
