Sony Pictures is in talks to land rights for a feature adaptation of Electronic Arts’ Battlefield, Deadline’s Justin Kroll reported on Oct. 2. Michael B. Jordan is attached to produce and potentially star. Christopher McQuarrie would direct, write the script, and produce. Sony had no comment. The piece describes talks, not a signed deal and not a production that has been greenlit.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. Kroll names additional producers: Electronic Arts’ Jesse Stern, Emerald Neon’s Carter Swan, Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, and Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo. Deadline does not give a release date or a production start. Those names, Sony’s silence, and the note that TheWrap went first all come from that Oct. 2 story.
Kroll calls Battlefield a long-running first-person shooter. The games, he writes, center on multiplayer warfare across land, air, and sea, in settings that range from both world wars to Vietnam and the near future. He also writes that TheWrap reported Sony’s involvement first. The account does not add a studio statement, a producer quote, or any scene-level description of what the film would take from the games.
This is a movie report, not a new Battlefield game release. Kroll does not name a platform, a ship date, or a tie-in product. The news is limited to Sony’s talks for a feature and the producers attached to that effort.
Jordan’s place in front of the camera remains only a possibility. The report attaches him as a producer and says he could star; it does not confirm him in the cast. McQuarrie’s directing, writing, and producing roles sit inside the same talks. A landed rights deal, a start of photography, and a theatrical date are all still unstated. An “in talks” item is not a locked Sony slate entry, and it is not confirmation that Jordan will play a lead.
