Sony Commits Another $1 Million Each to Promising China Hero Project PS5 Games

Sony is putting more money behind Chinese studios it wants on PlayStation. At a Shanghai press conference for the fourth phase of its China Hero Project, the company said selected games will receive a further $1 million in investment apiece, Push Square reports via Shenzhen-based journalist Daniel Camilo.

Among the titles called out were EXILEDGE, a third-person shooter set on an apocalyptic planet; DaBa: Land of Water Scar, a Souls-like about a humanoid puppet exploring the ruined city of Guge; and Unending Dawn, a multiplayer open-world action game about survivors facing cursed creatures. Unending Dawn comes from an earlier phase and still received the extra million.

Sony’s own blurbs lean hard into spectacle. DaBa promises “horrific enemies” in an imminent apocalypse. EXILEDGE sells “stunning visuals” and an emotional story. Unending Dawn asks players to walk a “Path of Cognition” through ancient legends. Camilo noted DaBa is aiming for spring 2027, with EXILEDGE due later that year, though Sony has not posted firm dates.

The checks do not automatically make the games PlayStation exclusives. Many will still launch on PC. Sony’s usual China Hero bargain is promotional muscle and a temporary console window in exchange for helping the games travel outside China.

That model looks smarter every week Phantom Blade Zero stays in the conversation. S-GAME’s wuxia action RPG, another Chinese production Sony helped put in front of a global PS5 audience, sold more than 4 million copies in its first 72 hours. China Hero’s ledger still includes other names such as Loulan: The Cursed Sand and The God Slayer.

For PlayStation, the project is both a China market play and a way to keep the PS5 software mix looking less dependent on the usual Western blockbusters. Phase 4’s next public update is expected as those $1 million bets move closer to launch.
