Ubisoft Is Shutting Down Rainbow Six Mobile on Jan. 15

Rainbow Six Mobile is coming to an end. Ubisoft announced on Thursday, October 8, that it will sunset the free-to-play tactical shooter, which will stay playable until its online services shut off on January 15, 2027. The game launched worldwide on iOS and Android just this past February.

“We’ve made the difficult decision to shut down Rainbow Six Mobile,” the team wrote in a message from the developers. “Since Soft Launch in 2023, you’ve helped shape the game across 15 seasons and built a community of players around the world.” The team said it will “move on to other long-term strategic projects.”

The game isn’t going dark right away. Ubisoft says the next season will be released as planned next week, and that future seasons will keep coming until the shutdown. In an FAQ posted alongside the announcement, Ubisoft didn’t directly say whether player numbers drove the decision. It said the call was made “to align our resources with our long-term strategic priorities.” Asked about refunds for last season’s content, Ubisoft only said players still have a few months to play and that more details on the transition will come in the weeks ahead.

Rainbow Six Mobile was announced in 2022 as a phone-sized take on Rainbow Six Siege, complete with maps from Siege, and was built for short, quick matches. According to GamesIndustry.biz, 11 Ubisoft studios worked on it alongside Tencent over six and a half years of development. Its worldwide rollout came on February 23, 2026, after a closed beta in 2022 and a soft launch in 2023.

The franchise itself isn’t slowing down. Rainbow Six now sits inside Vantage Studios, the Ubisoft subsidiary partly owned by Tencent that also runs Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, and Rainbow Six Siege is still going strong on PC and consoles.

The shutdown is the latest in a busy stretch of restructuring at Ubisoft. Last week, the company renamed one of its divisions, as RCG covered in Ubisoft brands Creative House 2 as Massive.
