Square Enix and developer TOSE have dropped a fresh systems deep dive for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, introducing Quick Scouting, the Scout Run, Joint Battles, key figure Almira, and a trio of new monsters — while reiterating the December 3, 2026 multiplat street and pointing players at a demo that is already live, Gematsu reported September 24.
The game still lands on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Quick Scouting and the Scout Run
Alongside the series’ classic battle-then-Show-of-Force recruit loop, Quick Scouting lets you throw a hunk of meat at a wild monster on the field and potentially recruit it without entering a full fight. Finer cuts persuade more easily, and some monsters prefer unusual meats. Later, the Scout Run opens at the Witherwood paddock for rare monsters recruitable only via Quick Scouting, using a quota of Scouty Snacks.
Joint Battles
Story progress can stall against a massive monster that one party cannot handle alone. In Joint Battles, Bianca and Nera each command a party while sharing HP and MP gauges; Pet Hates charge a Rage Gauge that unleashes stronger attacks before the foe tires. The same structure appears in the battle arena and in online Joint Battles for up to four players, with prizes for wins before round 10.
Almira, new monsters, and the demo
Square Enix introduces Almira, the Watcher of the Archeagles and Witherwood’s guardian (English voice: Grace Saif), whose disappearance after the Evil Eye’s descent frames the girls’ adventure. New monsters spotlighted include Hammerhood Honcho, See Slug, and Panda Pilgrim.
A demo covering the early Witherwood story — through the initial events there — is available now on all release platforms and includes Quick Scouting and Synthesis. Pricing and save transfer from prior Dragon Quest Monsters entries are not part of this systems update.
