Until Dawn 2 is not holding back. Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority has given the horror sequel an M18 rating for strong violence and coarse language, and its classification summary, reported by Twisted Voxel, gives an unusually detailed look at what is in the game.
According to the rating, Until Dawn 2 features brutal death sequences that include dismemberment, decapitation and characters being cut in half, along with heavy blood splatter and mutilated bodies. One cutscene shows a character having a lung forcibly removed. Others involve characters being impaled or having their faces and bodies torn apart by creatures. The summary also mentions skeletal remains, animal carcasses, scenes where animals are seriously harmed and a grotesque creature menacing the cast.
The rating lists frequent strong language as well. It also notes romantic scenes between two women, including kissing and hugging, and one sequence that implies sex before fading to black. Characters are shown smoking weed, and some dialogue includes sexual innuendo.
Developed by Firesprite with narrative help from AdHoc Studio, Until Dawn 2 is a standalone sequel that leaves Blackwood Mountain behind for an abandoned tropical island. It follows a group of ghost-hunting influencers who land a TV deal after a viral stunt and travel to an isolated island resort to film a show, only for things to go badly wrong. The game launches on PS5 on Jan. 28, 2027, Sony confirmed on the PlayStation Blog.
The sequel keeps the series’ choice-driven structure. Players switch between characters in third person, explore, talk and face threats, with timed prompts during key moments. The Butterfly Effect system returns, so dialogue and action choices shape relationships, story branches and who makes it to the end.
The original Until Dawn was made by Supermassive Games in 2015 and remade for PS5 and PC in 2024. Supermassive is not involved in the sequel and has since moved on to other projects, including a deal for Avalanche Studios to publish its games worldwide. Firesprite, a Liverpool studio owned by Sony, previously made The Playroom VR and the sci-fi horror game The Persistence. Until Dawn 2 is due out on Jan. 28, 2027.
