Deadlock’s City Never Sleeps hero parade is over. Valve added Nurse Harrow to its hero shooter on Tuesday, October 20, making her the sixth and final new hero from the City Never Sleeps update, and it marked the occasion with a patch post full of voting trivia.
Meet Nurse Harrow
Harrow is a support hero from the Marble Hill Possession Ward with what Valve calls unorthodox methods. Her Leech Therapy throws a jar of leeches that latch on to enemies, draining health and energy before crawling back to deliver what they took. Wretched Vapors possesses an ally with a powerful boost, though Valve warns of side effects when it wears off. Healing Needles injects medicine straight into teammates, and when her patience runs out, Lurking Terrors opens her bag to release the creatures she has captured. Her tagline sums her up: “Trust me, I know best.”
The voting by the numbers
Players chose the order of all six new heroes by voting in the pre-game lobby. Rat King won first and arrived on October 2, followed by Baba, Solomon, Deadman Danny and Violet, leaving Harrow for last. Valve shared these stats from the event:
- Over 110 million votes were cast.
- The closest race was Baba versus Solomon, decided by nearly 0.5 percent of the vote.
- Only 847 players voted in every round and always picked the winner.
- 36,236 players voted in every round and never once picked the winner.
- 22,194 players voted only for Nurse Harrow, and one player cast exactly 1,000 votes for her.
- Harrow’s voters consistently had a higher win rate than voters for any other hero.
That last stat is a fun consolation prize for her fans: they may have lost every vote, but they won more matches.
Six heroes in under three weeks is a fast pace for Valve, which usually takes its time with Deadlock updates. The previous release, painter hero Violet, came with a new player peak, and the voting system has clearly kept the community engaged. Deadlock is still invite-only on Steam, and Valve has not said what comes after City Never Sleeps.
