NintendoNintendo Cancels Kirby Air Riders Halloween Event Over Freezing Bug, Promises a Rerun

Nintendo has cancelled the Halloween event in Kirby Air Riders on Nintendo Switch 2 after players reported the game freezing during races. The “Trick or Treat!” event started October 28 and was set to run until November 4. Nintendo says it plans to bring the event back so players can still earn its rewards.

Kotaku reports that the Halloween update made the game freeze for seconds at a time. Nintendo’s Japanese support account, Nintendo Support (@nintendo_cs) on X, announced the cancellation on October 30. Nintendo Life spotted the post first.

Here is Nintendo’s statement in Kotaku’s machine translation: “We have identified an issue in the currently ongoing ‘Trick or Treat!’ event, where the screen may temporarily freeze during gameplay. As a result, we have decided to cancel this event.”

Will the Kirby Air Riders Halloween event come back?

Nintendo says yes, but it has not given a date. “Please note that we plan to hold the event again, allowing you to obtain the associated rewards,” the post continues. “We will provide further details as soon as they are finalized.” Kotaku says it has asked Nintendo for more details.

The event included Halloween and fall decorations, plus ghost hats that players could earn by playing. It would have been the first seasonal event for Kirby Air Riders, Masahiro Sakurai’s Switch 2 racer. The game follows Kirby Air Ride, which came out on GameCube in 2003.

Kirby’s next big Switch 2 game is also on the way: Kirby and the World Beyond is a free-roam adventure set for spring 2027.
