Spider-Man ’94 Annual #1 — Semper Resolves TAS Mary Jane Cliffhanger; Dec 9; Camardella Art

After nearly three decades, Marvel is handing the season-finale cliffhanger of Spider-Man: The Animated Series back to the person who wrote it. Original showrunner John Semper Jr. returns to write Spider-Man ’94 Annual #1, with art by Alessio Camardella, on sale December 9, 2026, in a CBR exclusive later amplified by Bleeding Cool.

Solicit and creative team

Marvel’s solicit frames the annual as the missing bridge: the moments directly after the animated series’ final-season cliffhanger — Mary Jane vanishing into a dimensional warp as Spider-Man goes after her — and before J.M. DeMatteis‘s Spider-Man ’94 ongoing. Cover A is by Nick Bradshaw; Cover B by Will Robson; Cover C is TBA at a 1:25 ratio.

Semper tells CBR he has free rein to continue where he left the show, adapting the long-planned reunion story he has consistently described as what would have been Episode 66 if Fox had ordered more episodes. He says the annual is structured like a television episode of the series, with the main difference being slightly more violence than Saturday-morning standards allowed. He also notes the Peter/Mary Jane arc is about giving fans closure, and that Mephisto material he has floated in older interviews is not part of this particular story.

Distinct from the other Dec 9 Marvel wire

This annual is a separate December 9 Marvel book from the already-covered Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man comic-bridge package that also streets that week. One resolves Semper’s 1990s TAS cliffhanger; the other bridges the Disney+ animated series into comics — do not merge them.
