Stronghold 4 — Numbered Castle-Sim Series Returns After 15 Years; Later 2026

Firefly Studios brought Stronghold 4 to the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct with a features trailer: the first numbered Stronghold since Stronghold 3 roughly 15 years ago is coming later in 2026 on PC via Steam, with wishlist already live.

Trailer bullets

PC Gamer’s Sep 20 writeup calls out the big trailer claims — seven-CPU skirmishes, 14 battlefields, and eight distinct enemy lords — plus the classic Stronghold loop of designing unconquerable fortresses and laying siege to someone else’s. Soft color from the piece: the lord roster leans colorful (elderly funding scold, punchable zoomer haircut, goth lady promising to break you apart), and strongholds range from wood to stone, simple to labyrinthine.

Why it matters

For strategy fans who grew up on castle design and trebuchet math, a numbered Stronghold after a decade-and-a-half gap is the Direct’s biggest RTS franchise return. Wishlist and wait for a firmer 2026 month.

As-of: 2026-09-20 evening ~5:30 PM CT (America/Chicago). Later-2026 Steam window, ~15-year gap after Stronghold 3, and trailer counts (7-CPU / 14 battlefields / 8 lords) verified against PC Gamer. No invented day or consoles.
