Night City is getting another anime-inspired refresh. CD Projekt Red says Cyberpunk 2077’s Edgerunners 2 Update, version 2.5, arrives on October 22, and it is free. The reveal landed on Tuesday, October 20, the same day Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the second anime series from CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, began streaming on Netflix.
The official Cyberpunk 2077 account teased the patch with a short post reading “NEW UPDATE INCOMING” alongside new key art, and tagged it v.2.5 for 22.10.26. The illustration pairs V with a character from the new series. CD Projekt Red credited Taisei Uchida for the original art, Yukiko Kakita for ink and paint check and Yuichiro Tozawa for special effects.
What we know about Update 2.5
CD Projekt Red is keeping most of the details for a livestream. So far, the studio has confirmed two headline features: cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle, plus what it calls “more.” Dual-wielding sounds like the biggest change to combat in the bunch, so expect it to get plenty of time in the showcase.
The full breakdown comes in a special REDstreams episode on Wednesday, October 21 at 5 p.m. CEST, which is 10 a.m. CT. The stream will run on Twitch, YouTube and Steam, and CD Projekt Red says the official patch notes will be published the same day. Update 2.5 launches on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version following shortly after.
Why Edgerunners matters to Cyberpunk 2077
The timing is not an accident. When the first Edgerunners series arrived in 2022, CD Projekt Red paired it with a free update that added weapons, gear and gigs inspired by the show, and the anime helped bring a wave of players back to Night City. Edgerunners 2 tells a new story with a new cast, so the studio is building fresh in-game content around it rather than leaning on the first season.
The anime and this patch are only part of a busy stretch for the franchise. A live-action film is also in the works, as we reported when word came that Paramount is developing a Cyberpunk 2077 movie with CD Projekt Red. For players, though, the next date to circle is Thursday, October 22, when Update 2.5 goes live.
