STALKER 2’s Zone Lookout Update Adds Squad Leader Fast Travel and Longer A-Life Draw Distance

GSC Game World has released version 2.1 of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, an update called The Zone Lookout. On consoles it shows up as update 1.025, and the full patch notes have been published by MP1st.

The headline change is how far you can see the Zone come alive. A new option lets players increase the visualization distance for A-Life NPCs, the simulation that moves stalkers, bandits and mutants around the map on their own. Binoculars have been updated to work with the new streaming distances, and the audible range of gunfights now scales with that setting, so distant firefights can be heard from farther away.

The update also adds a fast travel system with squad leaders, giving players another way to cross the map without hiking every trip. Anomalies have been reworked to fit the new systems, including streaming distance, interactions with dead bodies and visual upgrades for the arch-anomaly at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Their render distance now follows the streaming setting too.

There is a long list of AI fixes. GSC says it has fixed huge numbers of NPCs or mutants spawning at Rostok, too many mercenaries spawning at Duga, armed NPCs aiming in the wrong direction, NPCs ignoring the player when not looked at directly and characters getting stuck inside campfires. Cover heights were raised in places to help the AI use small cover better.

Quest fixes cover missions that could not be started, including The Destructive Power of the Mind, The Road to the Center of the Storm, Shadows of the Past and To the Origins of Freedom, plus level design work in the X-16 lab. PC players also get fixes for DLC not applying on first launch on SteamOS and for GeForce NOW users who could not launch DLC.

STALKER 2 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Big post-launch overhauls have been common this month, with The Blood of Dawnwalker’s update 1.1 adding respecs and pet cats. GSC keeps update news on its official site, and its larger patches have often been followed by a quick hotfix.
