Gene Luen Yang is clocking out of the sewers. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #24, his final issue on the IDW series, arrives in shops next week, and AIPT has an exclusive look at new color pages from artist Fero Pe with colors by Luis Antonio Delgado.
Yang marked the exit with a thank-you that doubles as a spoiler-light trailer. “When I first signed on to write the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I was told that Turtles fans were the nicest fans in comics. I have found that to be the case,” he told AIPT, thanking readers for convention signings and turtle-themed gifts.
“I’m sad to leave the book, but I believe Fero and I are going out with a bang! Issue #24 has it all: unexpected reunions, strange alliances, a trip to the underworld, and pages and pages of Turtles action!”
Preorders for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #25 are already open for readers who want to stay on the book after Yang and Pe’s farewell. AIPT’s preview pages lean into the underworld swing Yang flagged, giving shops a concrete sample before next week’s FOC-adjacent scramble.
IDW’s licensed shelf has been busy elsewhere too, including confirmation that Sonic the Hedgehog will keep running past issue #100 with Amy and Tails specials. Yang’s TMNT exit is the quieter kind of milestone — a creator thanking a fanbase instead of a new #1 relaunch — but #24 still reads like a destination issue for anyone who rode the run.
Next week’s pull lists will tell how many readers treat #24 as a last bagged issue versus a bridge into whatever creative team follows. Yang at least left them an underworld-sized reason to show up for the goodbye — reunions, strange alliances, and enough turtle action to make the thank-you note feel earned instead of perfunctory. For a licensed monthly, that is a rare kind of farewell.
